Giants injury report Antworten , 9/14: Olivier Vernon OUT Sunday vs. Dallas Cowboys The New York Giants will once again be without the services of their best pass rusher on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. Olivier Vernon will miss a second straight game due to an ankle injury suffered during a preseason practice.Coach Pat Shurmur told media at practice on Friday that the Giants hope Vernon will be able to play next week when the Giants face the Houston Texans. The Giants held the Jacksonville Jaguars to 13 offensive points without Vernon last week, but had only one sack and limited pressure on quarterback Blake Bortles with Vernon sidelined.Defensive coordinator James Bettcher knows the Giants miss Vernon.“When you’re talking about one of the elite pass rushers in the league, do you miss him? Sure, you’d love to have him. You go ask the 31 other (teams) if they want OV, all 31 will say yes ,” Bettcher said on Thursday. “I do love the make-up of that room. I love Connor Barwin, Kareem Martin and Lorenzo Carter. All those guys got their hand on the pylon, you can see them. We’re lining them up in different spots, sometimes Connor’s inside, sometimes Kareem’s inside , and we’re moving them around and trying to get them on matchups.”Week 6 Injury ReportPlayerPositionInjuryTues.Wed.Game StatusPlayerPositionInjuryTues.Wed.Game StatusCould the Giants be eyeing veteran corner Orlando Scandrick? The New York Giants have a potentially major concern at the cornerback position. So, it should come as no surprise that they could be looking at Orlando Scandrick, formerly of the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys.Rumors have surfaced that the Giants could look to the veteran corner to reinforce their shaky secondary. Washington signed Scandrick to a two-year, $6.85 million contract in the 2018 offseason. He was released on Tuesday, just five months after signing in Washington. Football Outsiders liked the signing when Washington made the move , stating that Scandrick could have one of the best performances for the money among the free agent corners. Drfted in the fourth round of the 2008 draft by the Dallas Cowboys, Scandrick isn’t a “shut down” corner. At 31 years old, the 5-foot-10, 190-pound veteran has been a reliable enough defender against both the run and the pass as a complementary piece. The Giants are up against the salary cap, with a little over a million dollars’ worth of room at the moment. Working in the Giants’ favor , if they are really interested in Scandrick, is the fact that he has already received $1 million from Washington in guaranteed money. As well, they can still create cap room by restructuring contracts and with creative cap management when they reach a deal with Odell Beckham Jr.So Giants’ fans, would you want to see the Giants sign Scandrick?
