Marcus Sorensen and Joonas Antworten

SAN JOSE Mark Giordano Jersey , Calif. (AP) Marcus Sorensen and Joonas Donskoi delivered the fast start San Jose coach Peter DeBoer wanted and Martin Jones did the rest to help the Sharks tie their playoff series with Vegas at two games apiece.Sorensen and Donskoi scored in the first period and Jones made 34 saves for his sixth career postseason shutout as the Sharks bounced back from an overtime loss to beat the Golden Knights 4-0 in Game 4 on Wednesday night.”We’d been chasing the game the whole series,” DeBoer said. ”We talked about it, but it’s easier said than done. I think we’ve had chances in the last two games to get out in front, but (Marc-Andre) Fleury has I think been exceptional, especially early in games, in order to keep us off the board. It’s nice that we’ve stuck with it, and hopefully we see some cracks.”Tomas Hertl added his team-leading fifth goal of the playoffs and Joe Pavelski scored a power-play goal in the third to set up a best-of-three for a spot in the Western Conference Final.Game 5 is Friday night in Las Vegas.Fleury made 30 saves and Vegas failed to convert on all five power-play chances while losing for the second time in eight games this postseason.”They were a little more competitive than we were tonight,” Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant said. ”We didn’t play a bad game, but we didn’t play well enough to win and they did, and they really did. I think we played well enough to win all of the first three Youth Matthew Tkachuk Jersey , but tonight? No.”Jones was a big reason for that, starting with a key save early against Reilly Smith. Jones was helped on a delayed penalty when Brent Burns cleared a puck off the goal line and when James Neal hit the post on a power play in the first period. But the San Jose goalie also delivered some big-time saves, including back-to-back stops against William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault on a Vegas power play in the final minute of the second. Jones then turned aside Smith on a power play in the third.Jones tied Evgeni Nabokov’s team record for most saves in a playoff shutout, and the Sharks have turned things around following a 7-0 loss in the opener.”I thought we probably managed the puck a little bit better for the whole game,” Jones said. ”We won battles on the boards, we got pucks out when we needed to and we got pucks in when we needed to. That was big for us tonight.”Hertl helped give Jones a cushion with his goal early in the second. Logan Couture won an offensive zone faceoff against Erik Haula, and Mikkel Boedker took the puck behind the net for a wraparound attempt. Hertl was in front and knocked in the loose puck to make it 3-0.Pavelski’s goal on the rebound of Couture’s shot sealed the game midway through the third. The Sharks made some changes from Game 3, with defenseman Joakim Ryan returning to the lineup for the first time since March 16 in place of Paul Martin, and Donskoi getting back in after missing the previous game with a lower-body injury. After an early giveaway led to a scoring chance for Vegas, Ryan fared well and stripped William Carrier of the puck to thwart a chance for the Golden Knights.San Jose then scored twice in the final five minutes of the first period. Sorensen struck first Michael Frolik Jersey , using a pick from linemate Eric Fehr to get loose from the corner and then skate around two defenseman to beat Fleury with his fourth goal of the playoffs. The Sharks added to the lead with 5.1 seconds to go when Donskoi skated from his own zone and beat Fleury with a wrist shot from the high slot.”At the start of the game they actually had some better looks than we did. I think they came out hard and better than we did and then Marcus scored and Joonas’ goal was big as well,” Couture said. ”The 2-0 goal was a massive goal heading into the first intermission.”Vegas was never able to recover from that early deficit.”We got caught a little bit sleeping in the first period and they took advantage,” Marchessault said.NOTES: Nabokov made 34 saves in playoff shutouts against Calgary in 2004 and Detroit in 2007. … Vegas had outscored the opposition 7-1 in the first period through its first seven games this postseason. … Sorensen has five goals in 14 playoff games compared to six in 51 regular-season games.— ST. LOUIS (AP) — Vladimir Tarasenko called it an “accident” but it paid big dividends for the St. Louis Blues.Tyler Bozak broke a scoreless tie with 7:25 left and Jordan Binnington earned his fifth shutout in two months as the Blues beat the Nashville Predators 2-0 on Tuesday night.Bozak took a cross-ice pass from Tarasenko in the third period and put the puck through the legs of Nashville goalie Juuse Saros. Tarasenko made the goal possible. He kept the puck inside the blue line to keep the play alive for St. Louis and then found a wide-open Bozak.“It was kind of an accident. There’s a bit of luck that’s needed in these games and there was a kind of luck to that play,” Tarasenko said. “It was a big goal for us.”Alex Pietrangelo added an empty-netter on the power play with four seconds remaining.Binnington, a 25-year-old rookie, stopped 19 shots. All his shutouts have come since Jan. 7, when he made his first NHL start. He is 14-2-1 in that span.“We were good tonight right off the bat, hot start,” Binnington said. “A couple chances didn’t go our way, we didn’t get it home Authentic Mikael Backlund Jersey , but we stayed with it the whole game and finally in the end there Bozie put one home. We’re playing hard for each other and we’re enjoying it. It’s a special group in here and hopefully we can make the most of it.”Bozak’s big goal came a few seconds after a power play ended.“We worked pucks hard that whole power play and obviously Vladdy made a great pass to me through the seam and I tried to shoot it quick,” Bozak said. “I knew there was a chance I could score and luckily it found a hole.”Saros said he was paying attention to Tarasenko on the play.“They moved the puck well and they had a one-seam pass and I was maybe over-anticipating one more pass in the middle,” Saros said. “I should have focused more on the shooter there.”Nashville coach Peter Laviolette did not fault Saros, who finished with 42 saves.“He played a great game. He did his job,” Laviolette said. “It just wasn’t enough. We didn’t have enough going the other way.”St. Louis won the season series 4-1-0, taking the final four matchups from its Central Division rival. The Blues are 11-4-0 in their last 15 games against the Predators, who have a one-point lead in the division over Winnipeg. The third-place Blues have three games in hand on Nashville.“This is a team that we’re behind,” Bozak said. “It’s a team that we want to catch and possibly get ahead. Our goal is to keep moving up in the standings and keep getting better.”St. Louis has won its past seven home games, the longest active streak in the league. The Blues also set a franchise record with 12 wins in February and matched their mark for any month (April 2013).“We were in last place when January started,” Tarasenko said. “I don’t know the stats. There’s so many games. You move from one game to another. There’s no thinking about how many you’ve won at home or on the road. We just try to win every game. We try to keep it rolling.”Nashville got on the power play in the third when Colton Parayko was called for high-sticking at 8:08 Mike Smith Jersey , but the Predators didn’t get a shot during the two minutes. Right after the penalty, Parayko had a breakaway but Saros blocked the shot.Binnington thwarted Filip Forsberg at 2:20 of the final period. Forsberg was all alone in front but couldn’t score. The Blues came right back with a big chance when Ryan O’Reilly hit the crossbar. However, the puck bounced straight down in the crease and out.The teams battled through two scoreless periods. St. Louis controlled the action for the most part, outshooting the Predators 24-14. The Blues had one power play in the first period but Nashville killed it. The Predators were unable to score when they were on the power play in the second.“Goalies are good and they’re going to make saves,” Blues coach Craig Berube said. “That’s part of the game. You have to stay with it and we did.”NOTES: Blues LW Alexander Steen was scratched with the flu. St. Louis recalled Sammy Blais on emergency conditions from San Antonio. … New defenseman Michael Del Zotto was a healthy scratch for the Blues. He was in Vancouver on Monday with Anaheim when the trade was completed and arrived in St. Louis late Tuesday morning. He has split this season between the Canucks and Ducks, scoring one goal and adding six assists in 35 games. … The Predators made two moves Monday just before the trade deadline, acquiring Mikael Granlund from Minnesota and Wayne Simmonds from Philadelphia. Simmonds was in the lineup Tuesday but Granlund was not.UP NEXTPredators: Play at Winnipeg on Friday.Blues: Play at Carolina on Friday.
