Detroit may believe Rashaan Melvin could be a stopgap while Amani Oruwariye could be their future, but the team could undoubtedly use a little more friendly competition for 2019. Claiborne is coming off an up-and-down season with the Jets. He recorded a career-high 14 passes defended, but his PFF grade of 62.7 ranked just 75th among 112 qualifying corners. Despite a couple weeks of Organized Team Activities, Detroit didn’t churn the bottom of their roster much, as they typically have under general manager Bob Quinn.However, on Monday, the Lions announced a small roster move. Undrafted rookie linebacker Juwon Young has been released, and the Lions have signed wide receiver Brandon Reilly to take his spot:Young signed with the Lions a few weeks after the draft following a two-year career at Marshall. There he accumulated 9.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks in two seasons.He’ll be replaced by Young, who has been on and off the Lions’ roster since December. The 6-foot-1 receiver has never made a game appearance in the NFL after going undrafted in 2017 Marvin Jones Jersey , but he has spent time on the Bills and Cowboys over the past two years. He was signed to futures deal with Detroit back in January, but was waived after the Lions signed a slew of undrafted rookies. Detroit has been a little shorthanded at practices with Marvin Jones Jr., Kenny Golladay and Tommylee Lewis missing time, so it’s possible Detroit is simply doing this to round out their roster for upcoming mandatory minicamp, which begins on Tuesday.
